Questions
What is Untrod?
Untrod is an iPhone app for walking your city. Every street you walk gets coloured in on your map, and you can see how much of your neighbourhood and city you’ve covered. It suggests daily routes through streets you haven’t walked yet, and collects stamps for the landmarks you pass.
Untrod has maps for about 300 cities, built from OpenStreetMap. You need an account to use it, so your map is kept safe if you change phones.
Why didn’t a street colour in?
Untrod counts a street when your GPS track follows it. A few things can get in the way:
- GPS. Tall buildings, narrow streets and tunnels can make your phone’s location drift. Make sure Untrod has Location and Precise Location turned on (iPhone Settings → Untrod → Location).
- The map. OpenStreetMap sometimes draws a street, path or pavement a little differently from how it is on the ground, or splits it in an odd place, so your track doesn’t line up with it.
We refresh the maps from OpenStreetMap a few times a year, so map problems get fixed with the next map update. Map updates never take away streets you’ve already walked. If a street still looks wrong, email us the street and the day you walked it.
How does the Apple Health import work?
If you walk with an Apple Watch, or use another app that saves walking routes to Apple Health, Untrod can add those walks to your map. Only walks with a GPS route can be added; step counts alone don’t say where you walked.
You can connect Apple Health when you sign up, or later in You → Settings → Apple Health. Your Health data is only used to draw your map. It’s never used for ads or marketing.
What does Untrod cost?
Untrod has a free plan you can keep using for as long as you like. Plus adds more, and costs $3.99 a month, $24.99 a year or $49.99 once for lifetime. Prices are in US dollars; the App Store shows the price in your currency.
Every new account gets 14 days of Plus free, starting when you sign up. You don’t enter any payment details for it, and when it ends you’re simply on the free plan unless you choose to buy Plus. You won’t see a paywall before your first walk.
How do I cancel Plus?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, tap Untrod and cancel. You keep Plus until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
Deleting the app or your Untrod account doesn’t cancel a subscription, so cancel it there first.
Can I get a refund?
Apple handles payments and refunds for apps on the App Store. You can ask for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com, signed in with the Apple ID you paid with.
How do I get Plus back on a new phone?
Sign in to Untrod with the same account, then go to You → Settings → Your plan and tap Restore purchases. Use the same Apple ID you bought Plus with.
Can I export my data?
Yes, on any plan, as often as you like. Go to You → Settings → Your data → Export everything. You get one zip file with every walk, street, stamp and setting, as GPX and JSON.
How do I delete my account?
Go to You → Settings → Delete account. It erases your map, walks, stamps, friends and leaderboard places from our servers straight away; backups that hold a copy are cleared within 30 days. You might want to export your data first.
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a Plus subscription. Cancel it in iPhone Settings (see above).
